COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATES
The Community Gardens are in full operations. There are 5 teachers who have staked out their plots and are currently clearing their land or about to sow their first seeds into the ground. In addition, the lunch time Garden Club is now being formed and have staked out 3 plots.
ENRICH LA, A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DIRECTED BY TOMAS O'GRADY, IS TAKING AN ACTIVE ROLE IN DEVELOPING OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN. JASMINE and ANGELA FROM ENRICH LA IS CURRENTLY CONDUCTING GARDEN CLASSES WITH PARTICIPATING TEACHERS ON MONDAYS. WE ARE APPRECIATIVE FOR THEIR PAST AND CURRENT ASSISTANCE IN DEVELOPING OUR LAND INTO A VIABLE AND PRODUCTIVE GARDEN. TO DATE, THEY HAVE ASSISTED US WITH AN AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEM, DONATED HUNDREDS OF SEEDLINGS AND CONSTRUCTED BENCHES FOR OUR STUDENTS. A SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR PRINCIPLE, MS. MALONE, WHO HAS BEEN MOST SUPPORTIVE IN DEVELOPING THE SOUTH GATE COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT.
8th grade: Mr. Romero and Ms. Hernandez are in full operation with their Environmental Elective Classes.
7th grade: Ms. Lamas and her students are in the process of clearing and staking out their garden area.
